Ngamba Island is a chimpanzee sanctuary located in Lake Victoria, approximately 23 km southeast of Entebbe. The 100-acres island is for 98% forested and only a small part is accessible for visitors. It provides a secure home to 40 orphaned chimpanzees, since return to their natural habitat is not possible. Day visits to Ngamba Island include a pleasant boat ride on Lake Victoria, an informative talk by the sanctuary staff, viewing of the morning or afternoon feeding of the chimps from the visitor’s platform area and bird watching. Also more exclusive programs are available such as joining the infant chimps on a forest walk or being a caregiver for a day
